The NMA Diabetes Education Program is implemented through coalitions formed throughout in most of the six regions of the NMA and lead by the Association’s local affiliate societies. As the hallmark foundation of the this grant, developing and sustaining at least six Coalitions is the first of the four objectives of the program.

Currently there are six coalitions in Atlanta , GA ; Houston , TX ; Indianapolis , IN ; Los Angeles , CA ; Pine Bluff , AK ; and Washington , D.C.

In each coalition city, the local NMA affiliate (society) forms a community coalition composed of public and private partners. Such partners include local partners such as the Student National Medical Association, the Auxiliary to the National Medical Association, community-based organizations, churches, state-based diabetes prevention and control programs, local health departments, medical related programs of historically black colleges and universities (HBCU’s), the American Diabetes Association, local physicians, diabetes patients and advocates, and others, as identified, to implement this program.
