The National Medical Association (NMA) is the leading force for quality and parity in medicine and the elimination of disparities in health.

As a 501(c) (3) national professional and scientific organization, the NMA is the largest and oldest national organization that serves as the collective voice for and represents the interests of more than 30,000 physicians of African descent and the patients they serve.  NMA is committed to it mission “to advance the art and science of medicine for people of African descent through education, advocacy and health policy, promoting health and wellness, eliminating health disparities and sustaining physician viability.” These efforts will assist the NMA to improve the quality of health among minorities and disadvantaged people.  Throughout its history, the NMA has focused primarily on health issues related to African Americans and medically underserved populations; however, its principles, goals, initiatives and philosophy encompass all racial and ethnic groups.

As the “conscience of medicine,” the NMA is poised to address old topics with a new direction implementing its new strategic plan. Its goals are reflective of the mission and speak to addressing health and wellness for patients and physicians, eliminating health disparities, and ensuring physician viability.
